A foreign woman was arrested after climbing over a railing to grab wires of a moving art installation at Singapore's Changi Airport, local media reported Monday.
The woman, who is understood to be mentally unsound, was seen in videos and pictures, which were posted online, climbing onto the netting below the Kinetic Rain Sculputure in the Terminal 1 building on Saturday morning.
At one point, she was seen perched precariously on the netting to grab the wires of the sculpture.
Onlookers screamed as she attempted to balance on a wire supporting the net while moving towards the railing where police officers later pulled her to safety. She was on the net for a few minutes, the Straits Times reported.
The sculpture, created by German design firm Art+Com, consists of 1,216 droplets-like pieces attached by fine wires to individually controlled motors in the ceiling of the departure hall. The droplets move up and down to create impressions of multiple shapes such as an aeroplane, a kite and a hot air balloon.
The art installation began operating in July last year.
Changi Airport Group said the sculpture was damaged, with some wires on the sculpture entangled.
"We have referred the matter to the police and our engineers are arranging for the sculpture to be repaired," a spokesperson said.
The police said they arrested a woman in her 30s under the Mental Health Act, which provides for the admission, detention, care and treatment of mentally disordered people in psychiatric institutions.
The police said she was not a Singapore citizen, but did not reveal her nationality. Endi
