Confucius Institute in Madagascar celebrates 5th anniversary

The Confucius Institute at Antananarivo University in Madagascar celebrated its fifth anniversary with a special ceremony on Wednesday.

The ceremony was marked by laying of foundation stone of a building for resident of Chinese professors in Madagascar, inauguration of a computer center of the Confucius Institute, and exhibition of photos of Confucius Institute for its existence in Madagascar.

Chinese Ambassador to Madagascar Yang Min said that he is very happy seeing Malagasy students speaking fluent Chinese, adding that the Confucius Institute in Madagascar has already became a platform of cultural exchange between the Malagasy people and the Chinese people.

The celebration was an opportunity for Madagascans to see with naked eyes the presentation of the Chinese tradition in a variety of shows such as music, songs and traditional "Beijing Opera". It is also for Chinese to enjoy some Malagasy traditional dance.

The Institute, established in Nov. 2008, witnessed 6,775 students of Chinese languages and culture enrolled in 2013. They are learning in 30 sites throughout Madagascar, the Chinese Director of Confucius Institute Li Haijun said. Endi
