GM Korea, the South Korean unit of U. S. automaker General Motors, was ordered to recall 4,848 units of a passenger car model due to defective transmission mount that will make driving impossible, the transportation ministry said Wednesday.

The recall will be subject to 4,848 units of Chevrolet Spark manufactured by GM Korea between May 10 and June 7 last year, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The ministry said that the model's transmission mount, which fixes transmission on car body, was found damaged, noting that it will possibly make the car-driving impossible as the damage can result in drive shaft out of the right place.

A drive shaft refers to a mechanical component that transmits torque of the transmission into wheels in case of a front-wheel- drive car, the ministry said.

Owners of the faulty vehicles can contact the service centers operated by GM Korea for free repairs from Wednesday. Those who had their cars repaired in advance can be reimbursed for their costs. Endi
