Many Ghanaians expressed shock at the reported death of ace BBC journalist Komla Dumor, who passed away in London on Saturday afternoon.

The Ghanaian born international journalist who hosted a number of programs on BBC radio and TV was said to have died of cardiac arrest as he was put on an ambulance due to heart attack .

"The Dumor, Gbeho and allied families with deep sorrow announce the passing of our beloved Komla Dumor in London," a brief family statement received here late Saturday announced.

A close family source later revealed to Xinhua that at the time, family members had been looking for some elders and clergy to break the news to in an appropriate manner to Prof. Ernest Dumor, father of the departed journalist who had not been in the best of health conditions.

The iconic journalist, who was adjudged Ghana Journalist of the Year by the Ghana Journalists Association in 2003, started his journalism in Ghana in 1996 with leading local English station as host of the "Super Morning Show"

He is known as "Boss-Player" in journalism circles both locally and internationally. He joined the BBC in 2006 after a decade of radio experience in his motherland.

Komla hosted various programs on BBC, including the BBC World News, Focus on Africa and Network Africa. His last appearance on BBC was on Friday

He had just been appointed by the British broadcaster as the BBC Face for the this year's World Cup in Brazil, after successfully anchoring the Wedding of Prince Williams, and the funeral of late former South African President Nelson Mandela.

Komla is survived by his wife Kwansema and three children. Endi
