Five soldiers were wounded in a military helicopter crash in Yemen's southeastern province of Shabwa on Wednesday, a government official told Xinhua.

The military helicopter crashed near an oil pipeline in Oselan region in Yemen's Shabwa, leaving at least five soldiers injured, the local government official said on condition of anonymity.

The government source did not provide further details about the persons who were injured in the incident. Another military source told Xinhua anonymously that they were dealing with a single helicopter crash in the region.

"The cause of the crash is under investigation. Initial reports indicate the military chopper was carrying a crew of oil company in Shabwa," the source said.

"But we don't have any information about the casualties or the cause of the crash," he added. Local residents confirmed to Xinhua that black smoke could be seen from several kilometers away.

On Oct. 15, 2012, a military helicopter crashed near the Anad air base in Yemen's southern province of Lahj due to technical problems and the pilot died later from serious injuries. Endi
