Star-studded opening gala opens Berlinale 2014

Berlinale Jury President James Schamus and Festival Director Dieter Kosslick as well as countless movies stars attended the Opening Gala of Berlinale, which kicked off the 64 th Berlin International Film Festival at the Berlinale Palast on Thursday night.

During the Opening Gala, all the International Jury, including Barbara Broccoli, Trine Dyrholm, Mitra Farahani, Greta Gerwig, Michel Gondry, Tony Leung and Christoph Waltz, showed at the red carpet of Berlinale.

Dieter Kosslick said to Xinhua that there are a lot of Chinese movies to see at this year's Berliale and called Chinese movies "completely fresh".

Following the Opening Gala, Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" had its world premiere. The American cult director has brought together an array of stars in the ensemble of his new comedy and many of them are also to be seen at the red carpet to present their film in Berlin.

Willem Dafoe, one of the actors of "The Grand Budapest Hotel", told Xinhua that it is a good movie to start Berlinale and he expects the audience to like this movie.

The members of the International Jury, the Best First Feature Award Jury as well as other international and German prominent figures also walked the red carpet at Thursday night.

From Feb 6 to 16, 72 countries and regions will show 409 films, among which 20 films will run for the Gold Bear Award in the official Berlinale program. Endi
