A new fortified underground hospital in Israel's northern coastal city of Haifa announced on Thursday to hold its first emergency drill next Tuesday.

Israel is calling the hospital, which is located at the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, the largest facility of its kind in the world. It was designed to serve as a parking lot on most days, and to be hastily converted into a fortified medical facility that can hold up to 2,000 beds in wartime.

Tuesday's drill will see medical staff from a host of departments transferring patients and equipment from the main hospital to its underground facility.

"This will be the first and last opportunity to practice preparedness for disaster situations before the parking lot opens in May," the hospital said. Endi
