Tele2 highlights data centric business model in Q1 report

The Swedish telecom operator Tele2 AB reports revenue growth of mobile end-user service in the first quarter of 2014, driven by positive usage of mobile data, said the group in a statement on Friday.

In the first quarter, mobile end-user service revenue of the group grew by 3 percent amounting to 3.6 billion Swedish kronor (), when the positive usage of mobile data compensated less revenue from mobile voice and SMS, according to the statement.

"Sweden stands as the role model when it comes to creating a profitable and data centric business model," said Mats Granryd, President and CEO of the Tele2 Group.

Meanwhile, the Group's net sales and EBITDA in the quarter amounted to 7.1 billion and 1.4 billion Swedish kronor respectively.

During the period, Tele2 Netherlands continued to gain market share in the market where mobile end-user service revenue amounted to 273 million Swedish kronor, growing by 39 percent compared to the first quarter of 2013.

Also, end-user service revenue of Tele2 Kazakhstan grew by 11 percent in the first quarter amounting to 216 million Swedish kronor, while EBITDA amounted to 1 million Swedish kronor, compared to - 45 million the same period last year.

"Our focus for 2014 is clear. The Netherlands and Kazakhstan are building a mobile business for the future, contributing strongly to overall growth," said Granryd.
