Czech police have detained and accused 11 members of an international group of pervitin (methamphetamine) drug producers and dealers in Ostrava, North Moravia, announced Czech regional police chief Tomas Kuzel on Monday.
But he did not say how many foreigners were among the detainees.
Kuzel said that the group produced very clean high-quality pervitin and it was able to produce up to one kilogram of drugs a week that worth up to 1.8 million crowns (about 90,000 U.S. dollars). Police estimates that the gang made and sold drugs for millions of crowns in north Moravia in the past few months.
The police seized a fully functional sub-machine gun and a semiautomatic rifle which were illegally possessed weapons during home searches. They also seized more than 100,000 crowns in cash and other property worth 500,000 crowns.
Three women and eight men aged 27 to 54 years were accused by Czech Police. All of them were taken into custody. Another man was sent to prison directly for drug crimes in the past. "He was given five years. But he was hiding for two years to avoid serving the prison sentence," said Kuzel.
The criminal group was very well organized. Most of the gang members had criminal records, said Radovan Vojta from the Ostrava police's management. He said that it had been the biggest raid of this kind in the region. (1 crown = 0.05 U.S. dollar) Endi
