Chinese FM says OIC important bridge for cooperation

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an important bridge for promoting friendship and cooperation between China and Islamic countries, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here on Thursday.

Over the past 40 years, China and the OIC have trusted each other, developed mutually beneficial cooperation with each other, and learned from each other with inclusiveness, which has become a model of harmonious coexistence of different civilizations, Wang said in meeting with OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameend Madani on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The two sides should strengthen political contacts, deepen mutual understanding and support on issues related to each other's core interests and important concerns, expand cooperation of mutual benefit, enhance people-to-people friendship, boost coordination and communication in regional and international affairs, and promote political settlement of hotspot issues, Wang said.

The Chinese foreign minister also said that Islamic countries are important strategic forces in the international system and have played a unique role for the civilization, progress and development of mankind.

Iyad said that the OIC and its member states attach importance to China's status and role in international affairs, dedicating themselves to making friends with China, enhancing mutual understanding and trust with China, and making relations with China closer, in efforts to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.
