The organizer of the 27th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) on Tuesday announced its international competition lineup, with 15 films being enrolled, while the section's jury that will be headed by U.S. director James Gunn.
The 15 works in competition section are excellent works for this autumn around the world and cover various film types, according to the TIFF organizer.
"All of these films are asking, 'how will they (or we) live tomorrow?' 15 directors, each overflowing with talent for depiction of humanity's depths and heights, present 15 brilliant cinematic crystallizations of our chaotic world in the TIFF Competition Section," said TIFF Programming Director Yoshi Yatabe.
The international competition jury will be led by James Gunn, who has become one of the most sought-after directors in the world after writing and directing Guardians of the Galaxy, and the jury will also group other five members, namely John H. Lee, Robert Luketic, Eric Khoo, Debbie Mcwilliams and Hiroshi Shinagawa.
Japanese director Takeshi Kitano and U.S. director Tim Burton are the first recipients of a newly set award, Samurai Award, in the 27th TIFF with an aim to commend achievements of filmmaker who continues to create groundbreaking films that carve out a path of a new era.
Opening screen of the 27th TIFF will be a U.S. film named Big Hero 6 and the closing screen is Parasyte, a Japanese movie directed by Takashi Yamazaki. The 27th TIFF will be started on Oct. 23 in Tokyo. Endi
