Two people were injured in a fire that broke out in a Latvian wood-processing company on Thursday, local media reported.
A 26-year-old man burnt his feet and ankles and a 59-year-old man suffered from smoke poisoning, Viktorija Gribuste, representative of the Latvian State Fire and Rescue Service, told Baltic News Service. Both men have been hospitalized, she added.
Jolanta Medne, representative of Latvijas Finieris, where the fire broke out, said an investigation commission would start an inquiry to find the causes of the blaze and gauge the extent of the damage.
More than 50 firefighters and 12 transport vehicles were sent to put out the fire after they were alerted the fire accident, which took place at the Lignums plant of Latvijas Finieris veneer company in Riga on Thursday morning.
The fire spread to a 250-square-meter area and damaged the company's equipment and products. All employees of the Lignums plant were evacuated and the plant's operations stopped. Endit
