Spanish consumer prices fell by 0.2 percent in May when compared with the same month of a year earlier, according to advanced data of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published on Friday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).

The figure is 0.4 percent higher than the inflation rate registered in April, when prices fell by 0.6 percent.

The INE reported this rise was due to higher prices of fuel and food, although this data will be confirmed on June, 12 when the INE will provide a more detailed explanation of the evolution of prices.

If it is confirmed, Spain's annual inflation rate would have been falling for 11 consecutive months.

The INE also reported that consumer prices rose by 0.5 percent from April to May. Endit
