Singapore defense minister calls for patience over South China Sea dispute

Singapore's Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen on Saturday called on countries to be patient in solving the South China Sea dispute.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the ongoing Shangri- La Dialogue in Singapore, the defense minister said "Let us not get frustrated by the process. Let us recognize that it will be difficult. These dispute claims have gone on for a long time".

"We ought to be patient about this because the alternative is much worse. We are finding ways forward, not as quick as others want, but at least we are talking."

Organized by the London-based think tank International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), the Shangri-La Dialogue brings together defense chiefs from 26 nations here as well as security experts to exchange views on key issues that shape the defense and security landscape of the region. Endi
