Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thomas Enders said here Wednesday that his group pledges to support Vietnamese airliners in developing fleet and personnel.

Enders made the appeal while meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in capital Hanoi on Wednesday during his visit to Vietnam.

Concerning Airbus A350 XWB, Enders said Vietnam is the first customer in Asia and the second in the world to order and operate these long-range, twin-engine wide-body jetliners.

In addition to cooperation in civil aircraft, the visiting CEO said Airbus is willing to work with Vietnam in military airplanes, aerospace as well as building and operating aircraft maintenance, and repairing facilities.

Nguyen Tan Dung, for his part, urged Airbus to seriously implement the contract of handing ten A350-900 XWB jetliners to the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines by 2019.

The two sides also need to build a long-term cooperation strategy. Following that, Airbus may support Vietnam in training personnel and developing technical logistic facilities, Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA quoted Dung as saying.

Vietnam is ready to discuss and cooperate with Airbus in aerospace and military technology, especially transport aircrafts and defense equipments, said Dung. Endi
