UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Wednesday that China had played an important role during the Iranian nuclear talks that resulted in a landmark comprehensive accord.
The UN Security Council on Monday adopted a resolution to endorse the newly-reached Iranian nuclear deal, Ban noted during a telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Ban said he believed that the Chinese side would continue providing strong support to the implementation of the comprehensive deal and the UN resolution.
Wang, for his part, said that the agreement will safeguard the global nuclear non-proliferation system and lower the risk of war in the Middle East region.
The agreement could serve as a positive reference for the handling of other international and regional hot spots, and it also proved the importance of the principle of settling disputes by peaceful means, which is enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, Wang said.
Wang hailed the unanimous adoption of a resolution by the UN Security Council to endorse the nuclear deal, saying it laid a solid foundation for the thorough implementation of the agreement.
The Chinese foreign minister also urged all parties involved to show sincerity and honor the promises they made in the landmark agreement.
China is ready to work together with all the parties involved, including the United Nations, to make new contributions to the proper implementation of the comprehensive agreement, Wang said. Endi
