Six people have been killed and five others injured in a landslide that occurred in Indonesia's North Sumatra province, a senior official at Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency said on Tuesday.

The official, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said the landslide was a result of heavy downpour in the past few days.

"Besides causing casualties, the landslide also buried a house with mud and rocks," Sutopo told Xinhua by phone, adding the disaster took place in Padang Sidempuan regency late Monday night.

He also said that evacuation of local people affected by the landslide was being jointly carried out by the BNPD (the regional disaster mitigation agency office), troops and volunteers. Endi
