Israel on Monday charged an ultra-Orthodox man with first-degree murder of a 16-year-old girl, and six counts of attempted murders in July's Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade.
Yishai Schlissel, who was released from jail only three weeks before the incident for a similar attack, had been arrested in the midst of stabbing spree at the parade. He killed Shira Banki and wounded five others. He was also indicated with aggravated assault.
Israel's Ynet web news reported that at the beginning of his trial at the Jerusalem District Court, Schlissel lashed out at the gay community.
In 2005, Schlissel was sentenced for 10 years in prison for carrying out a similar stabbing attack, injuring three people.
The latest attack sparked much criticism against the police for not having prevented Schlissel from attending the parade. Endit
