Belgian economy grows 0.4 pct in Q2: central bank

Belgium's gross domestic product grew by 0.4 percent in the second quarter of 2015 when compared with the previous quarter, central bank data revealed Monday.

On a year-on-year basis, the Belgian economy grew by 1.3 percent in the second quarter of 2015.

The figures from the National Bank of Belgium show industrial activity increased by 0.6 percent, construction by 1.2 percent and the service sector grew by 0.3 percent in the three months from April to June.

Consumer spending was up 0.5 percent, while government investments fell 4.2 percent.

Employment grew by 0.2 percent over the quarter and by 0.6 percent when compared with the second quarter of 2014.

This is the ninth consecutive quarter of positive economic growth in Belgium. The central bank figures show the last decline in GDP was in the first quarter of 2013. Endit
