World records broken in men's 500m, women's 1,500m speedskating

Russia's Pavel Kulizhnikov and American Brittany Bowe set new world records to capture the men's 500 meters and women's 1,500 meters repectively at the speedskating World Cup stop in Calgary, Canada, on Sunday.

   The 21-year-old Kulizhnikov clocked 34.00 seconds to beat the previous record of 34.03 set by Jeremy Wotherspoon of Canada in 2007.

   The 27-year-old Bowe, from Ocala, Florida, finished one minute, 51.59 seconds to break the previous record of 1:51.79 set by Canada's Cindy Klassen in 2005 in Salt Lake City to win the 1,500m race.

   On Saturday, Bowe broke her own world mark in the 1,000 meters, but her teammate Heather Bergsma topped her in the next pairing.  Endi
