A Chinese dragon dance was shown for the first time at the international masquerade festival Kukerlandia in the southeastern Bulgarian town of Yambol on Saturday.

The performance of a 30-meter-long dragon, colored in green, white and red, was staged by a group of students from the Confucius Institute at St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo. The performers were specially invited by the organizers for the festival.

The dance represents a touch of Chinese culture, organizers told thousands of spectators who had gathered at the town's park.

Kukerlandia is a masquerade festival held every year in Yambol. It aims at showing and preserving various folklore traditions and customs.

A total of 72 groups from across Bulgaria as well as mummers from Romania, Turkey, Serbia, Macedonia, Moldova and Russia participated in the four-day festival, which is held for the 17th consecutive year. Endit
