Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza Monday swore-in Dr Domitien Ndihokubwayo as the east African country's new finance, budget, development planning and privatization minister.

The ceremony took place at Kigobe Parliament House in the north of the Burundian capital Bujumbura in the presence of the country's leaders including heads of both chambers of the Burundian parliament.

In his oath, Ndihokubwayo swore fidelity to the Burundi's unity charter, the national constitution and the laws.

"Before the Burundian president and the parliament, I swear fidelity to the Unity Charter, the National Constitution and the country's laws. I commit to devote all my forces to defend high interests of the nation, to promote unity and cohesion of Burundian people, to promote peace and social justice in accomplishing my assignments," said Ndihokubwayo.

The new Burundian finance minister also committed to "combat every genocide ideology and exclusion" and to promote human rights and liberties.

Ndihokubwayo replaces Tabu Abdallah Manirakiza who was recently appointed as the deputy-secretary general of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

Born in Ngozi province in the north of Burundi on Oct. 4, 1966, Ndihokubwayo was appointed as the Deputy-Commissioner General of the Burundi Revenue Authority (OBR) in 2011 and became the OBR Commissioner General in 2014.

Ndihokubwayo was appointed by Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza in a presidential decree on May 18, 2016. Endit
