France shuts embassy and consulate in Turkey for security concern

The Embassy of France in Ankara and the Consulate General in Istanbul will be closed from July 13 at 1 p.m. local time until further notice, the embassy stated on its website on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, receptions planned in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir for July 14 are canceled for security reasons, said the statement, adding that France informed the Turkish authorities of this decision and remain in close contact with them.

The celebrations for French national day on July 14 in the embassy in Ankara, Consulate Generals in Istanbul and the Aegean coastal city of Izmir were also canceled.

Security threats have become grimmer in Turkey after an attack on an Istanbul airport last month which killed 45 people and wounded hundreds, which Turkey said that it was conducted by Islamic States militants. Endit
