World record holder Huang Lisha won her third straight Paralympic 100m T53 title, beating fellow Chinese athlete Zhou Hongzhuan in Thursday's final in Rio.

Huang crossed the line in 16.28 seconds, 23 hundredths of a second faster than Zhou. Australia's Angela Ballard claimed bronze in 16.59.

It was Huang's sixth Paralympic Game gold medal.

"I feel proud and really happy to have this gold and achieve this glory for my country," said the 27-year-old, whose impairment was a result of polio.

"Zhou and I spent more than 10 years training together and to reach today's level our country spent a lot of time, money and attention on us. Also our coaches dedicated a lot of time to us.

"We train as a group, and it's like a team sport for us. I really want to thank my country, my coach and my teammate for achieving this result.

"Our country really supports us and I'll see what happens in the future. If I continue training I might still improve and get a new record." Endit
