Nikkei hits 6-month high on strong U.S. stocks, JR Kyushu debut

Tokyo shares closed higher Tuesday, with the Nikkei index ending at a six-month high on strong U.S. stocks overnight as well as Kyushu Railway Co.'s debut on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 130.83 points, or 0.76 percent, from Monday at 17,365.25.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 9.71 points, or 0.71 percent, higher at 1,377.32.

Gainers were led by miscellaneous product, transportation equipment and financial stock issues.

The day's turnover was around 2,116.0 billion yen (20.25 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
