Poland's first cardiac surgery robot will be put into operation next year, an Polish organization said Friday at a medical robots conference in the northern Poland city of Zabrze.

The robot, named "Robin Heart Port Vision Able", will be used as an assistance to enhance surgeon's visual field, allowing doctors to accurately view the operative field, according to Polish Cardiac Surgery Development Foundation.

The first surgery is likely to take place in W. Bieganski provincial hospital in the city of Lodz and will be performed by r Grzegorz Religa.

Religa said that the robot can be a wonderful tool in hands of a skilled expert.

The robot's creator, Dr. Zbigniew Nawrat, revealed that future development plans also include creation of a set of new cutting and grasping tools and a new device modeled after octopuses' tentacles.

"It could be highly effective in stomach's surgery," Nawrat added. Endit
