Greek police detonates bomb device outside Labor Ministry

A bomb device placed outside the Labor Ministry in central Athens was detonated by a police squad on early Monday, without causing any injury.

According to the police, an unidentified man made a warning telephone call to a local newspaper about half an hour before the bomb would go off at the ministry.

No group has claimed responsibility for the plotted attack, but the police believe it was planned and carried out by one of the anti-government groups.

The country has been suffering from domestic terrorism for decades. Symbolic attacks against the government, and financial, police and justice targets have increased in the past seven years due to the country's debt crisis.

In several cases the perpetrators would make warning calls a few minutes before the attacks to avoid casualties among passers-by.

Monday's attack came as the labor reform emerges as one of the thorniest issues on the discussion table between Athens and international creditors to ease the country's serious fiscal situation. Endi
