UN welcomes releases of staff in South Sudan

JUBA, May 26 (Xinhua) -- The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Friday welcomed the release of George Livio, its national staff member who had been in detention since 2014 without trial.

In a statement released in Juba, the UN mission also called for the release of its two other national staff members who are currently being held in detention without trial since 2014.

"UNMISS continues to urge the South Sudanese authorities to respect national laws and the fundamental principles of due process under international human rights law," it said. Enditem
