LJUBLJANA, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone call with his Slovenian counterpart Borut Pahor on Friday, said a press release from Pahor's office.

President Putin congratulated Pahor on the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, while Pahor thanked Russia for recognising Slovenia on May 25, 1992, the press release said.

The two presidents said despite the current international situation, the ties between the two nations and their personal relationship remained good, with additional opportunities opening up to deepen economic cooperation.

During their phone call, Putin announced that an agreement on the supply of gas worth more than 600 million euros (671 million U.S. dollars) to Slovenia, which they had reached earlier this year, "would soon be implemented".

The two presidents also exchanged their views on international issues, particularly security challenges such as terrorism, the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) quoted the press release as saying.

They agreed that in response to such issues countries should overcome differences between them and the whole international community should establish cooperation and work for candid dialogue between global leaders.

The STA also reported that Putin recalled the warm reception upon his visit last year marking the 100th anniversary of Russian Chapel at the Vrsic Pass, the highest mountain pass in Slovenia, in memory of Russian soldiers who died there during the World War I and thanked the Slovenians for it.
