Oman defeat hosts Uganda in World Cricket League Division 3 event

KAMPALA, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Uganda suffered a second loss on Friday at the on-going 2017 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League Division 3 competition that they are hosting.

Oman chased Uganda's 144 (46.3) to win by eight wickets in a game played at the Kyambogo Cricket Oval. Uganda opened the tournament with a loss to Canada, before they fought back to defeat Singapore.

Uganda batted first however were hindered by Oman's good bowling.

After recess, the Oman team showed their prowess on the bat to score 145/4 in 27 overs. It was Jatinder Singh and Sultan Ahmed who collected a high 58 and 22 runs respectively.

"This has been a fantastic match and we need to keep focused and win all our remaining games," Madhuisinh Jesrani, the Oman Cricket Association Secretary and team manager said.

In the other games played at the Entebbe Cricket Oval, Canada suffered their first loss after three games. Canada batted first to put on 141 in 48.5 overs, but Malaysia chased to recorded 143/4 (38 overs) to win by six wickets and with 72 balls remaining.

Nikhil Dutta picked 30 runs for Canada, while Malaysia's duo of Ahmed Faiz and Anwar Arudin were in excellent form to pick 49 and 48 runs respectively.

Singapore also showed their strength with the bat when they chased United States' 237 (47 overs) to score 238 in 45 overs to win by seven wickets with 26 balls remaining.

Camis Alexander and Alex Amsterdam picked 44 and 41 runs respectively for United States, while Arjun Mutreja had a game high 101 runs and Chetan Suryawanshi 74 runs for Singapore.

After three games played by each team Canada remain top, while Oman are second with the same four points each.

On Saturday, bottom placed Uganda will battle Malaysia, while Canada take on United States and Singapore face Oman. The best two teams will qualify for slots in Division 2 and also make it to the next round of the 2019 World Cup qualifiers. Enditem
