MONTEVIDEO, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Isabel Pena became the first female president of a Uruguayan first division football club on Tuesday when she took charge of Montevideo-based Rampla Juniors.
Pena replaces Juan Castillo, who left the position to pursue his political career.
"It's a big responsibility, but I have great friends here who will help me," Pena told reporters, adding that she "watched football all day" .
Pena said she received congratulatory messages from all over the world after the announcement.
