GABORONE, June 22 (Xinhua) -- With only two weeks to go before the start of the Netball World Youth Cup 2017, euphoria is already at its peak in the host city of Gaborone, Botswana and spreading countrywide.

Botswana is to welcome nineteen other countries and regions from around the globe for the under-21 spectacle to be held from the 8th to the 16th of July 2017.

Speaking to the media following the launch of the official countryside trophy tour on Thursday, the General Manager of the Netball World Youth Cup 2017 Tebogo Kesupile said the country is ready to host a world class event.

She said the organizing committee has been hard at work over the past two years to deliver a good event on Botswana soil.

She said match and practice venues are already in great shape and standards required by the International Netball Federation (INF).

The trophy tour is set to take the trophy to be contested for to major towns and villages around the country as a way of promoting the event countrywide. Tickets for the tournament have been on sale for the past month.

Botswana became the first African country to host the event after it was awarded the bid by the INF almost four years ago. Meanwhile the Botswana under-21 team has been hard at work in preparations for the tournament.

The team has been to a training camp in Australia earlier in June and they are now putting final touches to their preparations with a training camp in neighboring South Africa.

The final squad of 13 girls was announced on Monday from the initial 23 that has been in camp. Botswana is in Pool C alongside Jamaica, Cook Islands, Malaysia and Uganda.

Pool A comprises of New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Samoa while Pool B is made up of defending champions Australia, South Africa, Barbados and Singapore. The last pool, D has England, Fiji, Trinidad and Tobago, Wales and Grenada. Enditem
