South African stocks close weaker on Friday

JOHANNESBURG, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Share prices on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) closed weaker on Friday.

The all share was 0.23 percent lower at 54,559.5 points at close of trading session, while the blue-chip top 40 index declined 0.23 percent. The Industrial index closed 0.16 percent higher.

The financial index was 0.18 percent weaker and the resources index lost 1.44 percent.

The South African Reserve Bank cut its forecast for economic growth on Thursday from 1 percent to 0.5 percent for 2017.

On the JSE, Vodacom was up 4.2 percent to R180.5, with MTN gaining 0.7 percent to R124.32.

Among the other dual-listed shares, Richemont added 0.49 percent to R109.12 and British American Tobacco traded 0.47 percent higher at R918.45.

ARDGold was down 3.59 percent at R403 and Sibanye lost 0.47 percent to R15.59.

Assore lost 3.17 percent to R198.51 and African Rainbow Minerals was 3.18 percent softer to R83.22.

PSG Group was up 2.55 percent to R261,5 while Capitec gained 1.23 percent to R848.34.

TFG was up 1.86 percent to R154.02. Enditem
