Spain's trade deficit stands at 9.83 bln euros up to May

MADRID, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Spain's trade deficit stood at 9.83 billion euros (11.46 billion U.S. dollars) up to May rising by 50.7 percent when compared with the same period of a year earlier, the Spanish Ministry of Economy reported on Friday.

Exports rose by 10.9 percent in the first five months of the year when compared with the same period of a year earlier to 116.89 billion euros.

Exports of capital goods rose by 10.2 percent up to May year-on-year, those of the automobile sector increased by 0.9 percent and those related to food, drinks and tobacco increased by 9.8 percent.

On the other hand, imports increased by 13.3 percent up to May year-on-year to a total of 126.72 billion euros.

Imports of capital goods rose by 11.9 percent in the first five months of the year when compared with the same period of a year earlier, those of the automobile sector rose by 2.1 percent and those related to food, drinks and tobacco increased by 8.8 percent. (1 euro = 1.16 U.S. dollars) Enditem
