Belarusian capital city Minsk braces for heaviest rain in history

MINSK, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Minsk, capital of Belarus, experienced record rainfall in the history of meteorological observations, the country's meteorological center said on Wednesday.

From Tuesday to Wednesday, heavy rains hit most parts of Belarus, but a record amount of rain fell in the capital, Minsk.

According to the meteorological center, the amount of rainfall in Minsk reached 77 millimeters for the two days. From 6pm to 9pm on Tuesday, the rainfall amounted to 24 mm, and another 53 mm of precipitation was from 9pm to 4am on Wednesday.

The data showed this is 87 percent of the monthly climatic norm, the meteorological center said.

Weather forecasters assure that such record rains in Minsk have not yet been recorded in the entire history of observations. Enditem
