JAKARTA, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) - Indonesia's eastern region of Maluku kicked off on Monday an international cycling event of 2017 Tour de Molvccas (TdM) with around 200 cyclists from 20 countries and regions taking part in the sport tourism event that would run until Friday.

Head of 2017 TdM organizing committee Saimina said that the cycling race would pass through 713.7 kilometers in Maluku province's two islands of Ambon and Seram with the latter island would host the most of the event.

"Four phases would be held in Seram regencies, while the final phase would be held in the province's capital of Ambon," he said recently.

The international cycling event is highly expected to give multiplier effects for the economy of people living alongside the route and boost the development and tourism in Seram island, whose location is adjacent to the island where the capital city of Ambon sits in. Enditem
