Indonesia's Banyuwangi to resume international cycling road race event

JAKARTA, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) - Indonesia's East Java province city of Banyuwangi would resume an international road race cycling event from Sept. 26 to 30 with 20 teams of 29 countries and regions have been registered to take part in the race that provides total rewards of 1.6 billion rupiah (about 120,500 U.S. Dollars).

The upcoming cycling race event would be the sixth one organized by the city since 2012, now entitled 2017 International Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen (ITdBI) and sanctioned by world' s governing body for cycling sports, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).

Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas said the road race cycling event would take a route of 533 kilometers, divided in 4 phases and to be featured with an extreme upward track at 1,500 meters above sea level in Mount Ijen, recognized as the most challenging one in Asia and in Indonesia as well.

"Teams taking part in the race are from France, Iran, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, Eritrea, Switzerland, Russia, the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Italy, Colombia and New Zealand," Abdullah said here recently, citing to parts of teams to vie in the cycling race. Enditem
