KIGALI, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda is set to deploy an additional 140 troops to reinforce the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), Rwanda's defence ministry said Thursday.

"Following the United Nations' request, the government of Rwanda accepted the deployment of additional force of one Motorized Infantry Company with 140 troops to the already deployed Infantry Battalion in Bangui," the ministry said in a statement.

The additional Force once deployed is expected to address the recurrent attacks against the population, it said.

The deployment started with airlifting equipment last Saturday ahead of the troops' deployment due on Sept. 26, said the statement, adding that the new troops will be temporarily deployed up to four months while waiting for further deployment.

Rwanda, one of the largest troop and police contributing countries to UN peacekeeping, started deploying peacekeepers to the CAR in 2014. Rwanda peacekeepers are responsible for maintaining security in general in different parts of Bangui and for protecting in particular the President of CAR as well as key national installations, according to the ministry of defence.
