ALGIERS, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will pay an official visit to Algeria on October 10, visiting Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said here Wednesday.

Novak made the announcement in a joint press conference with Algerian Finance Minister Abderrahman Raouya at the conclusion of the eighth session of the Algerian-Russian Joint Committee.

Eight new cooperation agreements will be signed between the two countries during the upcoming visit, according to Novak.

He said the two countries should provide the appropriate conditions for their companies to facilitate the development of inter-investment, referring to Russia's proposal to sign a long-term project agreement with Algeria to promote economic and trade exchanges.

Novak also urged the two nations to strengthen their cooperation, especially in the industrial sector to allow Algerians to benefit from Russia's experience in the field.

For his part, Raouya stressed the need to diversify the win-win partnership between Algeria and Russia with the involvement of private and public companies, stressing Algeria's readiness to lift all obstacles in order to facilitate the activity of Russian companies in Algeria.

"We have to continue our joint work and expand it to more sectors and we hope to diversify our strategic partnership," said the minister.

Algeria and Russia signed a strategic partnership in April 2001 in Moscow. Enditem
