YANGON -- The Chinese embassy to Myanmar on Thursday offered humanitarian aid to the Myanmar Red Cross Society in Yangon to help the displaced people in Rakhine State.

JAKARTA -- More than 1,000 people in Indonesia's Bali resort island have fled home and taken shelter in safer grounds as a volcano could erupt at any time, a disaster agency official said on Thursday.

MANILA -- The 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its dialogue partners China, Japan and South Korea on Thursday called for closer regional cooperation to combat terrorism and violent extremism.

ASADABAD, Afghanistan -- At least 18 Islamic State (IS) militants together with their three local commanders were killed in drone attacks in Afghanistan's eastern Kunar province, an official said Thursday.

"The first incident took place late on Wednesday, when an unmanned air vehicle of NATO-led troops targeted militants' hideouts, leaving 11 fighters, including two of their local commanders, dead in Batash Dara area of Nari district," Juma Gul Hemmat, the provincial police chief, told reporters.
