Aquatic sport test events for Asian Games to be held next month

JAKARTA, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- The sport authorities in Indonesia are preparing to conduct aquatic sport test events for the 18th Asian Games at the beginning of next month, association said here on Thursday.

The aquatic sport includes swimming, water polo and diving, chairman of the country's swimming association Anindya Bakrie disclosed.

The test events are scheduled to be held from December 5 to 15 in the Gelora Bung Karno sport stadium in the country's capital, the chairman revealed.

Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla is scheduled to open the test events for the biggest regional sport event, Anindya said at the vice presidential office.

"We came here to invite him (Kalla) to open the events. He said he would like to," he added.

In addition to check the readiness for holding the sport events in the Asian Games next year, Anindya said that the sport events also aim at boosting the capabilities of the country's athletes.

The 18th Asian Games will be held in Indonesia's capital and Palembang city of South Sumatra from August 18 to September 2 of next year. Enditem
