ISLAMABAD, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Law enforcement agencies in Pakistan thwarted a major terrorist bid in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province and apprehended four terrorists during an operation, state-run broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported on Thursday.

According to the report, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of police arrested the terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in an intelligence-based operation in Bahawalpur, a city in Punjab province.

The arrested terrorists were planning to launch attacks on politicians and personnel of intelligence agencies, said CTD officials, adding that they were in contact with a suicide bomber and waiting for him to arrive in the city for terrorist attacks.

The CTD officials also recovered arms and ammunition along with hand grenades, rocket, maps of sensitive locations and propaganda literation of TTP from the possession of the suspects.

Following the arrest, the alleged terrorists have been shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation. Enditem
