BEIRUT, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said on Sunday that the risk now facing Lebanon is economic, not military, as Israel dare not attack Lebanon, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

"Hezbollah, in addition to our national unity, will not allow Israel to launch any aggression against Lebanon," Berri was quoted by the NNA as saying.

If the situation remains unchanged, we will be going into a dangerous zone, he added, hinting at the delay in government formation.

The Lebanese speaker has, on many occasions, urged all political parties to compromise in a bid to reach a consensus in government formation amid economic deterioration.

Lebanon's public debt reached 82.95 billion U.S. dollars at the end of June, up from 76.5 billion dollars a year ago, according to Byblos Bank's weekly economic publication.

Lebanon needs to undertake major reforms to curb its public debt, including an overhaul of the electricity sector which costs more than 2 billion dollars annually. Enditem
