ATHENS, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- A makeshift explosive device went off early Monday at the premises of Greek media group SKAI in the southern suburb of Faliro in Athens, causing material damage but no injuries, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.
"This is a cowardly attack by dark forces against democracy. However, they will not achieve their goal. They will not terrorize people," Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said in a written statement.
Cabinet ministers, as well as Speaker of the Parliament Nikos Voutsis also condemned the attack in e-mailed press releases or statements to the media.
"Democracy and pluralism cannot be silenced," conservative main opposition New Democracy party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said when visiting SKAI headquarters.
Other opposition parties released similar press statements.
SKAI is one of the largest media groups in Greece. It was not the first time that SKAI group, which controls SKAI television channel, SKAI radio station and Kathimerini newspaper among others, has been targeted in terror attacks in recent years.
Warning telephone calls had been made to other media outlets before the blast and the building was evacuated. This is the usual modus operandi of domestic terrorist groups to avoid casualties.
Politicians, police, media and financial organizations have been targeted a number of times in similar attacks for decades in Greece which suffers from domestic terrorism.
No claim of responsibility has been made. According to police sources, at least two perpetrators were involved in the attack, leaving a backpack with about five kilos of explosives at a sidewalk next to the building. Enditem
