LUSAKA, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Friday.

-- Authorities in Zambia have revoked a mining license of a manganese mining firm following an accident in which three children died last Saturday after the earth collapsed on them as they dug for manganese.

Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Richard Musukwa said the ministry has revoked the mining license of Raah Mining Company which operates in Samfya district in Luapula Province because the owners failed to take possession of the mine premises resulting in the rampant illegal mining activities. -- About five kilograms of gemstones valued at 317,095.36 U.S. dollars have gone missing at the second largest emerald mining firm in Zambia's Lufwanyama district on the Copperbelt under mysterious circumstances.

Abdoul Ba, Gemcanton Investments Holdings chief executive officer said investigations have since been launched into the disappearance of the gems. (Times of Zambia)

-- A farmers' body has expressed concern that Zambia might not record a bumper harvest of maize during the 2018/2019 farming season due to failure by farmers to access subsidized farming inputs on time.

The Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) said the association had received reports from various parts of the country that agro dealers were refusing to release farming inputs to smallholder farmers under the E-Voucher system because the dealers were not sure of the government's commitment to pay them. -- Forty percent of admissions at Zambia's sole mental hospital are due to alcohol, according to the 2018 Status of Mental Services in Zambia report.

According to the report, 40 percent of patients to Chainama Mental Hospital situated in Lusaka, the country's capital, was due to alcohol abuse, with figures showing that men and women who use alcohol regularly are 32 percent and 12 percent respectively. (The Mast) Enditem
