ATHENS, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- The landmark Athens Hilton hotel in the center of the Greek capital is changing hands again, its new owners announced on Friday.

Greek-owned TEMES S.A., a destination developer and operator in the high-end tourism and real estate sector, acquired the majority stake of 51 percent in the share capital of the hotel's owning company after the departure of the Amsterdam-based D-Marine Investments Holding, a subsidiary of the Turkish Dogus Holding.

In 2016 TEMES and the Turkish investors had bought the hotel for 142 million euros (161 million U.S. dollars) after winning an international tender.

Last November the consortium reached an agreement with Hilton Worldwide to extend for another three years the use of the name Hilton.

The 49 percent of the shares which since 2016 was held by the Turkish company was sold to Saudi conglomerate Olayan Group which is also a shareholder in TEMES, it was announced.

The Athens Hilton is one of the historic hotels which have put their mark on the city's tourism industry for more than half a century.

It began operations in 1963 and its guests' book has included numerous heads of states, famous artists and celebrities. Enditem
