ATHENS, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Greek police recovered on Tuesday the body of a farmer on Crete island, who went missing on Monday during a flash flood, according to the Greek national news agency AMNA.

A car driven by the 61-year-old local was swept away by a river on the outskirts of the city of Chania as the region was hit by a heavy rainfall.

The cold weather system Oceanis had swept across Greece over the past three days, bringing snow to the mountains in northern and central Greece and storms to the south and the islands. The cold front began to recede on Tuesday.

By Tuesday noon, most ferry services nationwide were back to normal. A freighter that was adrift in rough waters on Monday off Alonissos island in the Aegean Sea has been repaired, and roads that had been closed due to heavy snowfall are now open again. Enditem
