ATHENS, March 7 (Xinhua) -- A total of 111 people have died of complications caused by flu during the current flu season, which started last autumn, the Hellenic Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) announced on Thursday.
And 20 of the deaths occurred last week, despite nearing of the spring.
Since the beginning of the outbreak, 337 serious cases of influenza have been confirmed by laboratory, of which 325 were hospitalized in (ICU), the authorities confirmed.
It is worth noting that among the 111 deaths, 99 were patients treated in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 12 patients were not.
According to KEELPNO though, "influenza activity in Greece is decreasing. Dominant subtype is A (H1N1) pdm09".
KEELPNO epidemiologists expect the flu season in Greece to end in April and continue to highlight the importance of influenza vaccination as the best way to prevent the infectious disease. Enditem
