SINGAPORE -- A new bill will be proposed to Singapore's parliament on Monday to require online news sites to publish corrections or warnings on fake news, or remove such articles in extreme cases, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said here on Friday.
The Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Bill will give the government the power to hold online news sources and platforms accountable if they proliferate deliberate falsehoods, Lee said. (Singapore-Fake news)

TOKYO -- Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Friday that the government will officially unveil the name of Japan's new era at 11:30 a.m. local time (0230 GMT) on April 1.

NADI, Fiji -- China and the Pacific Island Countries agreed here on Friday to strengthen their mutually-beneficial cooperation in the field of agriculture.
The decision came after a successful meeting held in Nadi, Fiji's third largest city, between China's Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Changfu and his counterparts of the Pacific Island Countries such as Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Niue, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu. TOKYO -- Japan's Justice Ministry has found 759 cases of foreign technical interns fleeing their work due to being mistreated by their employers while on a state-backed program here, according to a survey released Friday.
The survey of 5,218 foreign trainees on the state-sponsored technical internship program who absconded from work, also revealed that in the six years from 2012, 171 interns had died from accidents and suicide. (Japan-Intern-Scandal)

TOKYO -- A whaling vessel left a port in western Japan on Friday to take part in the last of the government's so-called research whaling program before the country begins commercial whaling after withdrawing from the International Whaling Commission (IWC).
The ship departed from the port town of Taiji in Wakayama Prefecture, known for its controversial whaling and annual dolphin drive hunt, to head for Ishinomaki City in Miyagi Prefecture, in northern Japan, where it will join other vessels. (Japan-Whaling) Enditem
