ATHENS, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Greek conservative main opposition New Democracy (ND) party retains a strong lead over ruling Radical Left SYRIZA ahead of the July 7 national elections, according to the results of a new opinion poll released on Thursday.
Should elections were held this weekend ND would win with 34.5 percent of the votes and SYRIZA would rank second with 23.3 percent, the survey which was carried out by Opinion Poll polling firm showed.
The center-Left Movement for Change (Kinima Allagis- KINAL) would garner 5.1 percent of votes and the Greek Communist party KKE 3.8 percent.
The two last parties entering the new Greek parliament would be the right-wing Greek Solution (Elliniki Lysi) with 3.2 percent and MeRA25 of former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis with 3 percent.
For first time since 2012, if the results of the poll were verified on the election evening, the far-right Chryssi Avghi (Golden Dawn) would not enter the parliament, failing to pass the needed 3 percent threshold.
According to the survey, Golden Dawn will receive only 1.8 percent of votes this time.
Asked about their opinion on who will be the most suitable next prime minister, 36 percent of respondents replied with ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, while 24.7 percent chose the incumbent Prime Minister and SYRIZA party leader Alexis Tsipras.
However, 38.6 percent of participants replied neither of them.
The survey was conducted on a sample of 1,302 voters in the period June 17-19. Enditem
